Inspiration came from a photo I took when I was out west doing some archaeological work. I was intrigued by the way the tree was growing out of the rocks. It had a very elegant shape and line to it. I didn't think all of that at the time, but those were some of the reasons why I chose to paint it. This painting definitely took me to new places within myself as an artist.
